“We have thought a lot about what the future of work will look like. With the corona pandemic, our staff switched to telecommuting, and over the past year, we introduced more than 100 new employees remotely. This showed that such location independence is possible, ”says the company’s director of recruitment Roinila years.
At present, the company has four offices in Finland, and the employees have been tied to the proximity of these locations. Placeless work requires arrangements
The experiment with off-site work is now targeted at new professionals being recruited to the house, but old workers are also likely to have the opportunity to work only, or at least mainly, remotely.
“Our customers are focused on big cities, and that has raised the demand for people to be present in a particular locality. They may have been demands for which there has been no need. We want to replace old ways with new ones, ”says Roinila. Due to reasons related to official obligations, place independence initially only applies to working in Finland.
What if an expert living in Salla works for a client in Espoo who wants the expert to be present?
“In that case, we will try to find him projects that do not have such a requirement. Closer we will find suitable experts. We’re not saying this is going to be easy, but we want to boldly try new ways of working, ”says Roinila.
IT recruitment difficult
Gofore recruits 130-140 employees annually. The company currently employs more than 700 people.
“We’ve found that people value things differently after a coronavirus pandemic than before. There is a need for flexible doing, and we want to make it possible. Recruiting in the IT industry is not quite easy. The big change over the last five years is that there are a lot of good jobs, and top professionals in their field can choose from a large number of employers. We want to stand out from the crowd with such a bold desire to experiment, ”says Roinila.
However, one important issue affects an employee’s choice of location, namely pay. Gofore also has different pay levels inside and outside the Helsinki metropolitan area, and the payroll level will continue to be influenced by the employee’s place of residence.
