CES would not be CES without (science) fantastic concepts, so that also applies to this year’s event, and General Motors took care of that.
The company even came out at CES 2021 two futuristic car concepts. The first arrived in the form of an autonomous egg-shaped vehicle, and the second as a “flying vehicle” with one seat and the possibility of vertical takeoff. Concepts are in the early stages of development, so they are not expected to appear soon, or at all. Their main purpose is to show future intentions when it comes to Cadillac vehicle design.
The autonomous vehicle arrives without traditional control parts, and the interior is reminiscent of living rooms from the 1970s. The creators describe it as a space where family and friends can gather and spend time together on the way to a destination. The vehicle also has a glass roof, which allows a view of the sky, as well biometric sensors that monitor the condition of passengers and based on that, they adjust the temperature in the vehicle, lighting, control noise, and even smells.
The flying vehicle, on the other hand, looks like an even more advanced version of the model that other companies are currently developing, and the Cadillac eVTOL “aircraft” uses a 90kWh electric motor that powers four rotors with which the vehicle can take off and land vertically.
These concepts were not a central part of General Motors ’announcements at this year’s event, as it all revolved around BrightDrop – GM’s new merchandise delivery department, but they proved that CES can be fun even in a pandemic.
