Global battery guarantee for all car brands is expected in 2023

The EU, USA and China have decided that minimum guarantees should be introduced for batteries in charging hybrids and electric cars. The proposed rules can take effect in two years.

There is a fear of that less careful car manufacturers are starting to use lower quality batteries to be able to lower prices in the competition for electric car buyers.

Therefore, the EU, US and China decided at a meeting with the UN Economic Commission to work for rules that specify how long guarantees car manufacturers must provide on their batteries.

Somewhat binding decision has not been taken yet, but there is a proposal that a battery should retain 80 percent capacity after 100,000 km or five years and 70 percent after 160,000 km or eight years. These requirements are already covered by the guarantees provided by many manufacturers.

The new rules can start to apply in 2023 at the earliest.

Good with mandatory guarantees on batteries!
