Glasgow Rangers appoint new coach

The Scottish soccer record champions Glasgow Rangers have signed the Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst (46) as the new team manager. The club announced on Thursday.

The former international, subject to a work permit, will succeed Steven Gerrard, who left the club last week after three and a half years for Aston Villa. Van Bronckhorst had already played for the Scots from 1998 to 2001 and was champion there twice.

“I am delighted to be returning to Rangers as the new manager,” said van Bronckhorst: “I am very fortunate to work with a team that is doing well in every way.”
