Council of Europe

German journalist Michael Martens, referring to reliable sources, says that Kosovo will start the process of joining the Council of Europe very soon.

Martens announced on Twitter that Kosovo’s chances of admission have increased, after Russia’s withdrawal from the Council of Europe.

“Russia outside, Kosovo inside? Some reliable sources confirm that Kosovo will ‘very soon’ start the process of becoming a full member of the Council of Europe. “Mathematically and politically, the chances of success are good,” Martens said.

On February 25, the day after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Council of Europe decided to suspend Russia as a member state. Russia withdrew from that organization on March 10, and a few days later, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe decided at an extraordinary session that the Russian Federation would cease to be a member of that organization.
