Geforce RTX 2060 12 GB tested – dubious benefit for gaming

Sky-high prices and empty stocks have been recurring themes in the hardware market for a little over a year now. To reduce this, Nvidia recently relaunched an old classic from the Turing family, in the form of the Geforce RTX 2060, with an upgrade to 12 GB of graphics memory and a graphics circuit similar to the RTX 2060 Super. Despite the launch, the card has been missing in the stores, but the Youtube channel Hardware Unboxed can now state that there is no major loss.

Geforce RTX 2060 12 GB inherits 192-bit memory bus from RTX 2060 but the higher number of CUDA cores and other hardware resources from the later Geforce RTX 2060 Super. This certainly means 13 percent more CUDA cores, but 25 percent lower memory bandwidth.

In testing, Hardware Unboxed uses twelve games and the combined result paints a picture of a card that performs closer to a Geforce RTX 2060 than an RTX 2060 Super. The card performs four percent better than an RTX 2060, while it is just under seven percent slower than an RTX 2060 Super. What is clear, of course, is that the small performance advantage the card has over its older sibling is not related to the amount of graphics memory.

Hardware Unboxed also mentions that they have heard from third-party manufacturers and resellers that the cards will be in short supply at launch and that the prices will be anything but reasonable. the card they tested, they paid the corresponding SEK 6,600 for. This is in line with the information Swedish players shared with SweClockers earlier.
