Russian energy giant Gazprom has informed Engie SA that gas supplies have been cut since Tuesday due to “disagreements on some contracts.” This is reported Bloomberg referring to the French utility Engie.

The announcement comes after French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born called on businesses to reduce their energy consumption on Monday. Otherwise, if Russia cuts off gas supplies, the country may face electricity rationing in winter.

“As previously announced, Engie has already secured the volumes necessary to fulfill its obligations to customers and its own needs. In addition, we have taken a number of measures to significantly reduce any direct financial and physical consequences that may arise from the cessation of gas supplies by Gazprom,” the company said on Tuesday.

Gazprom’s deliveries to Engie have already declined substantially since the start of the war in Ukraine, with monthly deliveries of around 1.5 terawatt-hours lately.

In addition, Gazprom plans to suspend supplies via the Nord Stream gas pipeline for three days starting August 31. According to the company, we are talking about planned repairs.
