PARIS – Russia’s Gazprom will cut gas supplies to Engie from Tuesday in a contract dispute, the French utility said, deepening concerns about energy supplies.
Europe has already been notified that Gazprom will shut down the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to Germany from August 31 to September 2 for maintenance and there are concerns that Moscow, which has already reduced the pipeline’s supply to just 20 percent of capacity, may increase pressure by delaying the restart.
In its statement, Engie did not give details about the nature of the dispute between it and Gazprom regarding the implementation of the contract.
Gazprom did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
Engie’s supplies from Gazprom have already fallen significantly since the start of the crisis in Ukraine in February, with a recent monthly supply of 1.5 terawatt-hours (TWh), the company said.
