Almost fifty years ago, GANT introduced the world to the rugby shirt for the first time in their men’s line. Now, many decades later, the Heavy Rugger is an important item in the collection every season. In honor of this beloved classic and in light of sustainability initiative The 7 Rules by GANT, the brand is proud to announce the arrival of Remake – a capsule collection of the upcycled Heavy Rugger. The Remake Heavy Rugger will be available online and in select stores for a limited time only starting April 8.
This capsule collection consists of three upcycled versions of the classic rugby shirt silhouette and an upcycled variant as a dress. Crafted from leftover fabrics from previous collections, this limited-edition line features bright colors and stripes for a bold, preppy look.
Icons don’t just happen overnight
Although the rugby shirt is over 200 years old, it didn’t become until the mid-20se century also worn off the field. Just like with it Varsity Jack happened, this item was also quickly picked up by students from top American universities and soon gained icon status within American sportswear.
Christopher Bastin, Creative Director at GANT: ‘GANT is one of the first fashion brands to take the rugby shirt off the field and turn it into a true fashion must-have. When GANT first launched their Rugger line in the early 1970s, it became such a success that within a few years the shirt made up about 30 to 40% of the brand’s total production. It is very special that almost fifty years later the Heavy Rugger has undergone another transformation, using leftover fabrics from the previous generations of this beloved classic..’
The 7 Rules by GANT
The campaign The 7 Rules by GANT saw the light of day last year and revolves around the following rules: Refresh (refurbish), Repair, Reuse (reuse), Rent (rent), Regive (give away), Remake (entertain) and Recycle (recycle). GANT wants to do with Remake inspire and invite their customers to take joint responsibility and extend the life of clothing. Through this collection, the brand shows that something new can be made from something old. That way, a garment does not have to end up in the trash.
The capsule collection will only be online for a limited time from April 22 gant.com and available in selected stores.
