The Day of the Resistance was celebrated this evening in Haapsalu St. John’s Church with a concert and prayer.

In the heat of the concert, Heiki Magnus recalled the government of Otto Tief, which held its last session in the Põgari prayer house in Läänemaa 78 years ago, and the fate of its members. Of the members of the government who were waiting for the speedboat arriving from Sweden in Lääne County, only State Secretary Helmut Maand managed to get to the west. The remaining members of the government were arrested and sentenced to prison or death.

Assistant provost Küllike Valk and organist Lia Salumäe of EELK Lääne deanery served at the memorial service. Patriotic songs were sung by the singing children of the Do-Re-Mi song studio under the guidance of Anne Pääsukes.
