President Klaus Iohannis gave a press statement on Tuesday, November 22, just a few minutes after the European Commission announced that from now on it will no longer monitor Romania within the MCV.
The head of state specified that this was the last MCV report for Romania and that from now on our country will be the same as the rest of the EU member states.
“This is the last MCV report of the European Commission for our country. From now on, Romania will be the same as all other member countries. This year the Romanian Parliament adopted the judamental laws of the judicial system that we promulgated after the CCR declared them constitutional.
Romania has demonstrated political will, but above all a strong support of the citizens to correct any deviation from a democratic course and to quickly resume the reforms. I am glad that all these advances were recorded in today’s MCV report, because these reforms are essential first and foremost for Romanians. Citizens have the right to a society in which the fight against corruption and integrity are fully assumed objectives”, stated Klaus Iohannis.
The president then thanked the politicians from Romania, the diplomats, but also the European actors.
“Thank you to the European Commission, President Ursula von der Leyen for your constant support and open dialogue. The Venice Commission found that the package of laws complies with European requirements.
Today’s report concludes a stage. But our joint efforts must continue. I am convinced and confident that our achievements today will be followed by others”, concluded Iohannis.
