You will still have to wait for 800+ or free medicines for children and teenagers, and also for reservations of the PESEL number – more than a year, but the free travel on state highways recently promised by the government is to come into force from July 1, 2023 – other toll sections of highways are to be abolished also in a year.
The Ministry of Infrastructure informed today about the adoption by the Council of Ministers of the draft act amending the act on toll motorways and the National Road Fund and some other acts. The regulations changed within it mean that from this year’s holidays we will not pay tolls on the A2 and A4 motorways on sections Konin – Stryków and Wrocław – Sośnica, respectively. Currently, tolls on these sections are PLN 0.10/km for passenger cars and PLN 0.5/km for motorcycles.
Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk:
The abolition of motorway tolls for passenger vehicles will result in the transfer of part of the traffic from alternative roads, currently chosen by drivers due to motorway tolls. Therefore, the level of safety on national and local government roads in the vicinity of motorways will increase. Thanks to this, funds for their maintenance, renovation and modernization will also be saved.
Toll sections of state motorways, managed by the General Director of National Roads and Motorways, are currently 261 km long in total, almost half of the remaining toll sections: A1 Gdańsk – Toruń, A2 Konin – Nowy Tomyśl – Świecko and A4 Katowice – Kraków, which is 469 in total km length. These, according to the president of the ruling party, are to be free in a year.
Jaroslaw Kaczynski:
Those situations where highways are private or leased, such accidents also exist, we promise that we will deal with it within the next year.
Personally, I’m a little worried about the words “we’ll get this over the next year” for any private property, but maybe I’m exaggerating and it’ll end up on highways.
To sum up, the abolition of tolls on state highways from July 1, 2023 applies only to passenger cars or motorcycles (vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons), and it will not be possible to introduce tolls on other highways managed by GDDKiA – currently in use and free of charge and those under construction and commissioned in subsequent years.
