France presented a plan to transform the Champs Elysees in Paris through a 250m-euro project. The project should be realized by 2024, the year in which Paris will host the Olympic Games.
Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the most prestigious and widest avenue in Paris, is two kilometers long and is located in the 8th arrondissement, in northwestern Paris. It stretches from Place de la Concorde in the east, to Place Charles de Gaulle in the west, where the Triumphal Arch is located.
The city authorities announced that the Place de la Concorde will be renovated on the Champs Elysees ahead of the Olympics in Paris in 2024, and that the entire avenue will then be turned into an “extraordinary garden”.
According to the project, the space for cars will be halved and pedestrian paths with tree lines will stretch for 1.9 km.
The Board of the Champs Elysees assessed that the decision of the city of Paris is a concretization of the project that was initiated in the summer of 2018 by that association which gathers cultural and economic actors of the famous Paris Avenue.
The mission on the future appearance of the avenue was entrusted by the board to the PCA-Stream agency, and the project was presented by Mayor An Hidalgo in February 2019.
A large number of Parisians were involved in the decision-making – almost 100,000 inhabitants of the arrondissement to which the Champs Elysees belong, with the support of Make.org.
The project is current, since the coronavorus epidemic has created a greater need for nature among the urban population, according to the French media, which published the explanation of the project.
