A manager, a business owner and a machine shop are known to be guilty of a case of bribery in Aarhus.
A former head of the contracting department in Aarhus Municipality has been sentenced to four months’ suspended prison in a case of bribery.
This is stated by the Court in Aarhus.
The 58-year-old man today was charged with receiving bribes in the form of DKK 217,500 from a company that, among other things, supplied tractors to the City of Aarhus.
Among other things, the money was given as sponsorships to a badminton club in Aalborg, for which the managing director sat on the board.
The tractor supplier also offered the manager and his wife tickets for concerts including Sanne Salomonsen and Eros Ramazotti at the Aalborg Cultural and Congress Center.
In addition, he and the lady were offered tickets to the Nibe Festival for three years with free access to the bar, lunch and evening buffet.
The illegal gifts and services were donated in the period 2010 to 2016. And according to the Aarhus Magistrate’s Court, the gifts were given to gain a business advantage.
The company’s owner has been sentenced to 60 days in prison, while the machine shop has been fined DKK 100,000.
Another company that provided an IT system to the City of Aarhus, according to the prosecution, paid a golf stay in Sweden.
This company and two associate directors have been indicted for bribery but have been acquitted. The court emphasized that it could not be denied that there was a professional purpose for the trip to Sweden.
Furthermore, it was not an “extravagant stay”, the court believes.
The former head of administration has pleaded not guilty to the case. He was expelled from his workplace and later reported to the police in 2016.
“I haven’t kept anything secret and I haven’t gotten a penny out of it myself,” he said as he explained during the case.
According to the DR, the prosecutor in the case, Jesper Rodkjær, had demanded four to six months imprisonment for the former head of administration.
So he ended up with a much milder verdict.
