Ford’s next generation Transit Custom has just been presented at the IAA Transport Show

Ford Pro presents new digital solutions at the transport fair in Hannover

The international transport fair in Hannover, IAA Transport Show 2022, has just kicked off. In this connection, this morning Ford Pro presented its new digital solutions, which not only result in more uptime for the vans, but also increase productivity for Ford’s customers.

Fords are E-Transit Custom has just made its global debut at the international transport fair, which among other things exhibits vans. In this regard, Ford Pro presented the 100% electric E-Transit Custom and revealed more details about the van, which is also available in a plug-in hybrid version and in several EcoBlue diesel variants.

In the same connection, Ford presented the ‘Ford Pro Upfit Integration System’ – an advanced new system for built-up vans. The system helps to hold the van customers’ hands and make the digital transition more streamlined for the customers who drive built-up vans on a daily basis.

– Due to the increased costs throughout Europe, the need has never been greater for solutions that increase companies’ productivity. Ford Pro’s revolutionary software solutions are designed to help customers precisely reduce costs and streamline their operations when transitioning to an all-electric fleet, said Ted Cannis, CEO, Ford Pro.

New Transit Custom: A van for all needs

The electric E-Transit Custom is at the forefront of Ford’s new Transit Custom, which in addition to a 100% electric variant is also available in more variants than ever before – for example also as a plug-in hybrid. It is therefore possible for customers to find exactly the van that meets their needs.

While the E-Transit Custom has an expected range of up to 380 km1then the new Transit Custom Plug-in Hybrid is expected to have a range of up to 57 km2. The plug-in hybrid’s drivetrain is the same as on Ford’s popular, Kuga Plug-in Hybrid, and combines a 2.5 liter Atkinson petrol engine with an 11.8 kWh battery. The flexibility of this drivetrain makes it obvious for future van customers to switch between driving on electricity or petrol – for example when the van is in the city or on the motorway. The new Transit Custom Plug-in Hybrid also offers the smart ‘ProPower onboard’, which makes it possible to power external sources such as tools with up to 2.3 kW.

The new Transit Custom is also available with the latest generation of Ford EcoBlue diesel engines with 110 hp, 136 hp, 150 hp or 170 hp. If desired, the six-speed manual gearbox is also available in combination with a mechanical differential lock. In addition, an eight-speed automatic transmission is introduced – this variant has a maximum trailer capacity of 2,500 kg and is available for the first time with an all-new four-wheel drive.

Like the 100% electric E-Transit Custom, the new Transit Custom offers a number of innovative solutions, such as the all-new steering wheel that can be transformed into a table in a snap. The main key features of the van are the following:

  • A cargo space with a lower loading height that ensures even easier access to the van. A total height of under two meters and independent wheel suspension at the rear.
  • All vans can be delivered with a short or long wheelbase and with a high or low roof.
  • The new Transit Custom is available as a van, double cab, hatchback and with an L-shaped partition.
  • Standard 5G modem and 13” SYNC 4 touch screen.
  • The van comes in the variants: Base, Trend, Limited, Active, Trail and Sport.

All the variants in the new Transit Custom generation are fully integrated with Ford Pro software solutions as well as services such as Ford Pro Telematics, while users of the van can also use the FordPass Pro app. Customers will also be able to get more uptime with the help of Ford Live Connected.

The new Transit Custom will be produced by Ford Otosan in Kocaeli, Turkey. Vans with EcoBlue powertrains are expected to be delivered in mid-2023, while the other variants will be available later next year.

The new Ford Pro Upfit Integration System

Half of all Transit models sold in Europe have undergone some form of rebuilding. Many of these changes must also “talk” with the van’s electrical systems, such as the van’s touch screen. These changes are often time-consuming and challenging for the responsible builder. To streamline this process, Ford has now developed the ‘Upfit Integration System’.

This digital solution is being introduced in Europe in connection with the launch of the new Transit Custom. This enables a seamless connection to the van’s electrical system and allows external devices and functions to be controlled via the van’s 13” SYNC 4. This makes the work much faster and more efficient for the builders, and it will also make it easier and more user-friendly for the van driver .

The van’s digital solutions can also be connected to Ford Pro Software, so that the fleet manager can, for example, stay informed about the van’s temperature in the cold room, even if the van is out of service.

Ford Pro Mobile Service

Ford Pro has this morning also announced Ford Pro Mobile Service – Ford’s rolling workshop. The workshop helps customers on the move and will reach out to customers, regardless of whether they are at home or at work, for example. Already today, 70% of all planned maintenance is carried out with mobile service in the UK. With the launch of the all-electric E-Transit and E-Transit Custom, this is expected to rise to 90%. This service is expected to save Ford’s customers large costs in downtime and, not least, visits to the dealers.

Ford Pro Mobile Service is just one of many services and software solutions that Ford offers customers. According to Ford’s estimates, for example, downtime is reduced by 60% when using Ford Liive. This system has already meant that vans have been available for a whopping 145,000 more days this year alone in Europe, which is estimated to be worth around €73 million to customers.
