Five Swedish Friday links

Now it must stop! Confused people live everywhere, also in Sweden, where someone obviously finds it fun and rewarding to throw stones at primarily Danish cars that are on their way to and from Ystad. Since April 2021, more than 100 stone throws have been reported against cars on the E65 motorway in Sweden. In other words, there are more than 100 attempted murders in just a few months.

Attempted murder? Is it not to go a little over the line, someone might ask. Nix! Not from my point of view. A rock hitting a car at speed can cause such fatal accidents that human lives are at stake. We all saw this in 2016 on the Funen motorway. Here, a German family on a holiday trip was hit by a tile thrown from a bridge. The German family was unhappily affected.

The wife died while the husband suffered serious injuries. The son escaped with minor physical injuries. Nevertheless, the father is disabled and the mother is dead. That is the reality for the little boy who has to live the rest of his life with these scars on his soul. And while a police effort has been on the case all these years, it has unfortunately not been possible to find the perpetrator.

Stone throwing is attempted murder

But the perpetrator is the killer. He has killed another human being and he has ruined the life of a little boy. In my opinion, an unforgivable act that can only impose a severe punishment if the perpetrator is found. He or she must be held accountable for this horrible act.

And the same thing I want to say to the perpetrators in Sweden: stop throwing things at cars at speed. Make your time to go with something sensible. Respect other people’s lives, and stop in time before things go seriously wrong.
