Five Portuguese restaurants win their first Michelin star – GPS

The Michelin Guide awards, in the 2023 edition, the first star to five new Portuguese restaurants, including the vegetarian Encanto, by chef José Avillez, which adds up to the third distinguished space, the publication announced today in Toledo, Spain.

Encanto (José Avillez and João Diogo), Kabuki Lisboa (Paulo Alves), Kanazawa (Paulo Morais) — in Lisbon –, Euskalduna Studio (Vasco Coelho Santos) and Le Monument (Julien Montbabut), both in Porto, receive one star (‘top-notch cuisine, it pays to stop’) in the Michelin Guide Spain and Portugal 2023.

This year, the distinction of one star was awarded by the Portuguese chef Ricardo Costa (The Yeatman, Porto, two Michelin stars), a novelty in the guide presentation ceremonies.

With the announcement of the new Portuguese winners, chef José Avillez joins Encanto to the already ‘starred’ Belcanto (two stars, Lisbon) and Tasca (one star, Dubai), also being the first vegetarian restaurant to be distinguished by the ‘red guide’ in Portugal.
