Fishermen from Mersin opened the season

Longing for the sea since April 15, when the season was over, the fishermen completed their final preparations at Mersin Fisherman’s Shelter after the ban was lifted on September 15.

The fishermen from Mersin, who started the fishing season by starting the engines of their boats as the clocks showed midnight, advanced towards the Mediterranean Sea.

Fisherman Ramazan Kaya told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they are excited about the opening of the new season.

Expressing that they want to have a fruitful season, Kaya noted that they are looking forward to the coming of this day.

Stating that it is a good feeling to complete all the preparations and sail into the blue waters, Kaya continued as follows:

“We have adjusted our nets, ropes and personnel. We are ready for the season. We are waiting for a good season, without any accident or trouble. We have been away from the sea for 5 months. We missed the sea very much. We say ‘vira bismillah’ and go to the sea with God’s permission. We have missed the sea very much. We have missed this profession for 40 years. I wish all fishermen a good season.”

Kaya stated that they will bring the fish they catch to the shore in 2-3 days, depending on the situation in the sea.

Other fishermen who sailed also said they were hopeful for the season.
