Ordinary students of the Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) have organized a human chain to demand amendment of the Non-Cadre Recruitment Rules 2020 of the Department of Fisheries. The human chain was held in front of the Zainul Abedin auditorium of the university on Sunday (January 10) at around 12 noon. More than three hundred students participated in the human chain.
It is learned that on 30th December, under the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, the recruitment notification for various non-cadre tenth grade posts of the Department of Fisheries was published. In the recruitment notification, only Zoology and Fisheries Diploma holders have been given eligibility to apply for the posts of Supervising Inspector, Assistant Fisheries Officer and Fisheries Survey Officer for a total of 201 vacancies. Fisheries graduate students were not given any opportunity.
On the other hand, ninth grade job applications are open to fisheries graduates as well as zoology graduates.
Speakers at the human chain said that at present bachelor’s degree in fisheries is being awarded in 22 universities. Although more than a thousand fisheries graduates graduate from these universities every year, in the last four years, BCS and government research institutes have received only a hundred recruitment notifications. Fisheries graduates are applying for various government second and third class jobs due to limited employment opportunities. It is very unfortunate that there is no opportunity to apply for the second class government job in fisheries.
Professor of aquaculture in the human chain. Muhammad Mahfuzul Haque said that Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented success in the fisheries sector. We are 3rd in the world in freshwater fish production, 1st in hilsa production and 4th in tilapia production. Behind this contribution is the contribution of Fisheries graduates. In all the sectors where the graduates of fisheries are getting job opportunities, the graduates of zoology are getting job opportunities but the graduates of fisheries are not able to apply everywhere.
Professor Mohammad Sajjad Hossain of the Department of Aquaculture said, “Our graduates are falling prey to various conspiracies.” In the technical sector, where fisheries graduates are supposed to get jobs, zoology graduates are getting jobs. As a result, more seats are being given to zoology graduates. We will take the movement to Dhaka to meet our demands. This movement is the movement of all the fish graduates from all over the country.

Speakers at the human chain called upon the authorities to provide opportunities for Fisheries graduates in technical positions in the ongoing recruitment process and to amend the Non-Cadre Recruitment Rules-2020. At the same time new positions were created and well-organized organograms were demanded.
At this time, if the demands are not implemented within the next one week, the students warned of a strong movement.
