Pedro Fernandes da Palma revealed that “during the lunch period” they received the information that a vessel would be burning in a “dry” shipyard – out of water – and the firefighters were called.
The official says it is a “fiberglass vessel with about 30 meters”, not knowing the causes of the fire, but adding that “it is something that will be investigated”.
Source of the Faro District Command of Socorro Operations (CDOS) confirmed to Lusa that the alert was given at 13:19 for a fire in a vessel in a shipyard “next to the nautical school of Farol, in the Ponta da Areia area” in Vila Real of Santo António.
According to CDOS, the fire “is restricted to the vessel”, not endangering any other vessel in the shipyard, nor any other infrastructure.
On site are 11 vehicles and 27 operational, with no record of victims.
