Fines for cars without a valid toll are doubled

The bill, which seeks to increase fines for cars without a valid license plate, was passed by the Senate on Monday. The draft was submitted to the Chamber of Deputies, which is the decision-making body.

The fines for non-payment of rovinieta remained the same since 2010, while the amount of the tariff for using the national road network in Romania expressed in lei increased by almost 20%.

The fine for those who will not pay the toll could be 275 – 550 lei for cars and 950 – 1900 lei for freight vehicles with MTMA less than or equal to 3.5 tons.

“The reason for this initiative lies in the recognition that in the last six years the number of deviations in this field of activity has increased exponentially. We consider that a doubling of the fines supports the recognition that the current amount of the fines is not capable of discouraging the infringement phenomenon, which is why we are proposing this change. Consequently, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure supports the draft normative act in the form approved by the Government “, explained Gabor Sandor, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport.
