The Government decided on Wednesday that all fines that are foreseen for breach of any of the rules regarding the containment of the covid-19 pandemic will be doubled during the state of emergency. An amendment that has now been published in Republic Diary. In the decree-law published this Thursday, “the contraordenacional regime in the scope of the situation of calamity, contingency and alert is changed and aggravates the infraction related to mandatory teleworking during the state of emergency”.
“In view of its predominantly deterrent effect and with a view to reinforcing awareness of the need to comply with these measures, it is justified, during the state of emergency, to aggravate the current sanctioning regime, increasing the respective fines to double”, can be read in the decree.
It was on Wednesday that António Costa stated that theThe authorities will start to consider any offense as “very serious”, “from the outset for wearing a mask on public roads”. In this case, citizens can pay up to 1,000 euros.
Another case of worsening concerns the covid-19 test on arrival in Portugal. For those who do not submit to the SARS-Cov-2 screening when they land at Portuguese airports, the amount to be paid by the offender goes from 300 euros to 800 euros.
There are also fines for those who fail to comply with another Government determination:
teleworking will again become mandatory for all compatible functions, regardless of the will of the employer or worker.
“The processing of labor offenses follows the procedural regime applicable to labor and social security offenses”, says the decree-law, noting that the inspection is the responsibility of the Authority for Labor Conditions.
