Suara.com – Law enforcement officials continue to strive to crush and arrest perpetrators of social engineering crimes. Such is the case with the arrests of three suspected fraudsters on behalf of BRI in Bandung, West Java and Palembang, South Sumatra. BRI actively coordinates with law enforcement officials in submitting reports until the perpetrators are finally found.
Social engineering banking crime is a crime that manipulates the victim’s psychology to leak personal data and confidential banking data. The media used by the perpetrators to approach and trick victims also varied, ranging from short messages/online chat, telephone, SMS, e-mail, social media, and others.
The perpetrators of social engineering crimes use the information mode of changing interbank transfer rates from Rp. 6,500 per transaction to Rp. 150,000 per month to deceive victims through WhatsApp. In the message, the perpetrator attaches a link where the victim is required to fill in personal data and banking data to break into the account.
Filling out the form allows the fraudster to have access to the victim’s account. The message is certainly not true because it is not a BRI policy and does not come from an official source of information published by BRI. For this matter, BRI together with the local police conducted a joint analysis of the transaction flow and proactively supported the process of disclosing the fraudulent crime up to the arrest of the perpetrators. “BRI also supports and cooperates with law enforcement officers to handle and arrest perpetrators of social engineering crimes,” said BRI Compliance Director, Ahmad Solichin Lutfiyanto.
“BRI’s efforts to combat social engineering in the banking industry include the filing of a complaint by BRI to the Cyber Police of the Metro Jaya Police, together with the Polda Metro Jaya, BRI also carries out analysis related to transaction flows, disclosure of modes, to taking action and arresting perpetrators of social engineering crimes. “, said Solichin.
BRI’s proactive steps in supporting the arrest of perpetrators of social engineering crimes are expected to reduce the recurrence of similar crimes. “The arrest of the perpetrators of this crime shows BRI’s commitment to explore and handle social engineering cases that have harmed customers,” he added.
On the other hand, Solichin said that BRI periodically continues to educate on social engineering crime prevention through the company’s official communication channels. This is expected to increase public awareness in order to avoid various modes of social engineering.
“BRI urges customers to always be careful in conducting financial transactions, namely by maintaining the confidentiality of personal data and banking data. Customers are expected not to disclose information that can give access to accounts such as passwords and PINs. Customers are obliged to keep it a secret from anyone, including family, relatives, and even bank officers,” said Solichin.
Furthermore, Solichin said that BRI always informs all services through official communication channels (verified/blue ticks) that can be accessed by customers via the web: www.bri.co.id, Instagram: @bankbri_id, Twitter: bankbri_id, Kontak_bri, promo_bri, Facebook: BRI Bank, Youtube: BRI Bank, Tiktok: BRI Bank, and Contact BRI at 14017/1500017.
