Ferrari has introduced the all-new 296 GTB, a supermodel with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that is housed in the catalog below the F8 Tribute and rivals the recently introduced plug-in hybrid McLaren Arthur.

This is the first Ferrari for roads with a six-cylinder engine after the 1974 Dino 246 GT and it is full of new technology. It is designed for top performance with the least possible impact on the environment. The price in Europe starts from 269,000 EUR.

The car has a plug-in hybrid drive centered on a 2.9-liter two-turbo V6 engine. The total power of the system is 830HP and 740Nm. The declared acceleration of 0-100km / h takes 2.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is above 330km / h. The cylinder angle of the V6 engine is 120 degrees, and Ferrari notes that this lowers the center of gravity and has a positive effect on handling.

Without electric assistance, this engine delivers 660HP, which is a record specific value for any serial internal combustion unit. 220HP per liter of volume is delivered here. The 296 GTB has rear-wheel drive only and has one electric motor located between the petrol engine and the eight-speed automatic transmission. A relatively small battery of 7.45 kWh is installed, which enables driving on electricity of 25 km.

The chassis is equipped with brakes with electrical connection and magnetically controlled adaptive shock absorbers. The wheelbase has been reduced by 50mm compared to previous models with a centrally located engine, which has improved cornering agility. This is made possible by the installation of a slightly shorter engine, which is 30 kg lighter than the 3.9-liter V8 unit. The whole car weighs 1,470kg.

There are six chassis adjustment modes and the latest grip control software is installed, which includes a new version of the side slip control system. This software receives data from sensors on the chassis and estimates the amount of grip on the rear tires to provide as much assistance as needed to keep the vehicle skidding in a controlled manner.

There’s also an optional Asseto Fiorano package that raises the price to € 302,000 and brings carbon trim, harder GT racing shock absorbers and some redesigned panels, with a total weight of 12kg. Customers can choose the special graphics of the classic Ferrari 250 Le Man, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires and a light rear window that saves an additional 3kg.

Beneath the attractively designed body is a system of air ducts, including a splitter that pushes air under the nose towards the aggressively styled rear diffuser. There is also an active rear spoiler that lifts at the rear end and provides an additional 100kg of vertical pressure. Ferrari has announced that the 296 GTB can generate 360kg of vertical force at a speed of 250km / h when equipped with the Asseto Fiorano package.

The cabin is an evolution of the concept introduced with the SF90 Staradale. The two models share the same level of technology, but Ferrari said the designers made an effort to give the GTB a more sophisticated and minimalist look.
