DAPURPACU – The Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 racers had to settle for the bottom 10 position after undergoing the qualifying session on Saturday (26/6) at the Assen Circuit, the Netherlands.
Fabio Di Giannantonio had to settle for 15th place at the start of Sunday (27/6) this evening, while Nicolò Bulega slumped to 26th.
Diggia’s far from satisfying achievement was the result of his collision with a Sky Racing Team VR46 racer, which caused the yellow flag to fly.
Thus, the second time on the last lap was cancelled. Diggia believes starting the race from the fifth row will be more challenging, but behind it may add even more motivation.
Diggia admitted, the results of the qualifying session were not as lucky as when he underwent a free practice session which was able to record a better fastest time.
“I like the new set-up and think we will do much better than this in qualifying. Things don’t go as planned, so you have to work hard because the temperature is expected to be high during the race,” he added.
While the Bulega need a harder performance because they are far behind. He had to adapt the ride (Kalex) again in the hope of finding a bigger turning point during the race later.
Especially if the race conditions are rainy and Bulega has shown that he is able to be competitive on the wet track (FP3), where he is able to carve the third fastest time.
“This lap time result means we would have finished much higher had we managed to get into Q2. So I’m not too worried about our race speed,” explained Bulega.
“Obviously the grid position won’t make things easy, but we have to aim for the top 15. We made a new set-up that had no impact in Q1, but all the timings were very tight,” he concluded.
The Assen circuit which has a length of 4,542 m is a challenge for Diggia and Bulega, because its character is different from other circuits. [dp/MTH]
