Less speed disciplines and more technical. The division of the race for the 2022/23 season should suit the Olympic slalom winner Petra Vlhová.

Petra Vlhová may have reason to smile after the preliminary publication of the World Cup calendar.
Although the final form of the World Cup calendar for the 2022/23 season will be approved by the Congress of the International Ski Federation only during the summer, its first shot has already seen the light of day.
The skiproguru.com portal has published preliminary dates and disciplines that skiers should complete next season.
Petra Vlhová and her opponents should complete 37 World Cup races, which is the same number as last season. But while in the year 2021/22 there were up to 9 conventions and 9 super-G, there will be significantly fewer of them in the future. Specifically 4 super-G events and 7 conventions.
“It doesn’t surprise me, because there was already some noise about it at the end of the season. We had a preliminary idea of what was going on, “said Petra Vlha’s brother and team manager Boris Vlha for Pravda.
Less speed disciplines are to be replaced by a larger representation of parallel races (4 events) and alpine combinations (3 events).
“In the fight for a large crystal globe, this will suit mainly technically oriented skiers, who will be at an advantage compared to the speed ones,” said Vlha.
The number of races in Vlh’s strongest disciplines, ie slalom and giant slalom, remained unchanged compared to last year – in both cases there will be 9 races.
One of the reasons for such a radical plan of the International Ski Federation may be the lower attractiveness for television viewers. The downhill and the super-G only go on one lap.
“Two-round disciplines are more attractive for spectators and they always graduate in the second round. The girls go in reverse order and it is not clear until the last moment which one will win. This is not the case in those speeds, “added Vlha.
