Expert Krainik appreciated the idea to reduce the cost of OSAGO for a number of Russian cars

According to the initiative, as the expert noted, the reduction in the cost of OSAGO for Russian cars can stimulate demand for both domestically produced cars and the purchase of insurance. Nevertheless, if accepted, the proposal will not affect the average price of an OSAGO policy in the country.

“The fact is that the accident rate on the road is weakly dependent on the type of vehicle. The main factor is the type of driver who drives the car, since it is the responsibility of the car owner that is insured. Nevertheless, the Russian-made car fleet is aging every year. According to our data, every third calculation of the cost of insurance falls on cars older than 16 years. The number of domestic cars aged 15 to 20 years is constantly growing,” the expert noted.

In addition, he clarified that a decrease in the cost of insurance for one category of customers will necessarily lead to an increase in the cost of another.

“If such an initiative starts to be implemented, then some customers can potentially receive a discount of 5 to 10% of the price of an OSAGO policy. At the same time, the other part of the buyers will receive a similar premium when applying for insurance, ”Kraynik emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that Andrey Kutepov, the head of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, proposed to reduce the cost of OSAGO for Russian cars with a high degree of localization.
