Minneapolis. A former police officer who helped arrest George Floyd in May 2020 has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison on Friday for his role in the unarmed, black man’s death.

The former officer, J. Alexander Kueng, pleaded guilty in October to charges that he was an accessory to murder.

He was sentenced via a video link to the prison cell in Ohio where he is being held.

Kueng was one of four officers called to a business in Minneapolis in May 2020. Here they arrested George Floyd, who was suspected of paying for a pack of cigarettes with a fake $20 bill.

Kueng has already been sentenced to three years in prison because he did not help George Floyd when their colleague Derek Chauvin pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck for nine minutes.

It led to Floyd’s death.

A third officer, 36-year-old Tou Thau, was also sentenced to three and a half years in prison when the trial ended earlier this year.

According to the verdicts, Kueng and Rhau are guilty of depriving Floyd of his civil rights and of not coming to his aid.

Friday’s sentencing against Kueng is about his role in the killing of Floyd.

In February, Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 20 years and five months in prison for violating Floyd’s rights. He had already been sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for the murder of Floyd.
