Everything Apple unveiled at the Far Out event, including the new iPhone 14

Apple unveiled more than just the new iPhone 14 phones, although these were certainly the star of the night.

September is colored in Apple colors every year. Every year, 900 million iPhone users eagerly await what Apple will prepare this time. On the other hand, Android users are waiting to see if they will get any material with which they can hit Apple and their followers. Did both come to their account? Yes, Apple has made quite a few concrete improvements, as well as a few quirks that have pleased the Android camp.

Whether you’re a die-hard Android or iOS fan, Apple’s event is always something special, and usually an indicator of how mobile technology will shape up in the future, which also applies to Android manufacturers. Understandably, the reverse is also true, as Apple is not the only one driving innovation.

In the following, we will take a look together at what Apple has prepared at the September event.

An event marked by the new iPhone 14

The central theme of the event was certainly the new iPhone 14 smartphones, but they did not offer major revolutionary changes.

iPhone 14 in iPhone 14 Plus

Apple gives and Apple takes away. The layout of the 14th generation of iPhones will be slightly changed. Apple has removed the Mini version and added the iPhone 14 Plus to take its place. If the Mini model was a smaller version, the Plus model is the exact opposite. It’s a larger version of the basic 6.1-inch iPhone 14.

Another change, which is not exactly to the liking of the users, happened inside, or rather, it didn’t happen. Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be powered by last year’s A15 Bionic processor. Don’t worry, it’s still a top-of-the-line chip that easily competes with the most powerful Android processors. However, this decision is a bit bitter for a phone worth 1,000 euros and more.

Elsewhere, the phones got some new hardware. The camera array has been improved, promising even better photos and videos. In the foreground is the new main sensor with a resolution of 12 MP, which also got a faster aperture. There’s also a new 12MP selfie sensor with autofocus, which is something completely new for iPhones, but already quite common on Androids.

US users will receive another “upgrade”. Apple is abandoning the SIM card slot in the US market and this has partly encouraged the transition to eSIM cards. Europe will not receive this change, at least for now.

The new iPhone smartphones are now equipped with a satellite SOS system, which includes tracking and connecting the phone to satellites. In an emergency, the user will be able to express the level of urgency with predefined messages. The service is free for two years, which is enough time for users to decide if it’s a useful feature or not.

In Slovenia, the price of the standard iPhone 14 starts at 1,070 euros (128GB), and ends at around 1,500 euros for the 512GB version. The iPhone 14 Plus has a starting price of 1,230 euros, and finally 1,650 euros. The classic version will go on sale from September 16, and you will be able to buy the iPhone 14 Plus from October 7.

Zverini iPhone 14 Pro in iPhone 14 Pro Max

Everything is happening around the Pro versions. Both phones got the A16 Bionic chip, which will sweep away all the competition, including the A15 processor. There are also some changes in appearance. The notch on the front is now pill-shaped and has a fancy new name “Dynamic Island”. It is actually a combination of hardware and software. As usual, in the notch we find the sensors necessary for facial recognition and taking selfies. It also got an additional software function, namely, the notch automatically adjusts its size to display notifications, playing music, and the like. Opinions on the notch differ. Some have welcomed the new feature and can already see scenarios where the new software functionality will come in handy. Others want Apple to slowly remove the notch entirely and make the transition to an under-display camera.

Both iPhone Pro phones will (finally) also get an always-on display. There’s also a new Crash Detection safety feature that calls for help for you. The feature will be familiar to Pixel users who have been using it for quite some time.

On the back, the layout is more or less identical. After many years, however, Apple has upgraded the 12 MP sensor to 48 MP, and a new 12 MP ultra-wide camera is also available.

Cena?

  • iPhone 14 Pro: 1.400 – 2.100 €
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max: 1.550 – 2.250 €

Apple Watch Series 8

For the new generation of Apple Watch Series 8 smartwatches, upgrades are also withheld. The reason is the maneuvering space that Apple deliberately left for itself for the presentation of the new model (more below).

The Apple Watch Series 8 smartwatches have a temperature sensor for the first time, which in theory should allow more accurate insights into tracking women’s cycles. For other users, the sensor will measure temperature fluctuations during sleep, which can be a good indicator of health problems. Like Pro phones, smartwatches will be able to detect traffic accidents.

Another new feature is “Low Power Mode”, which allows you to extend the rather poor battery life of the Apple Watch by turning off various functions. However, this feature is coming to all Apple Watch Series 4 and newer products, so you won’t need the latest watch for this.

  • Apple Watch Series 8 (41 mm): 509 €
  • Apple Watch Series 8 (45 mm): 549 €

Apple Watch Ultra – a premium watch available only to a handful of users

Apple has introduced a premium version of the Apple Watch for the first time. The Watch Ultra smartwatch is bigger, more robust and has more functionality than their regular watches.

The screen is made of sapphire glass, there is an additional physical button (Action Button) on the side, the speaker is bigger and louder, the battery is also bigger, and LTE connectivity adds spice to everything.

You get all this for “only” 999 euros. Judge for yourself whether the prices of smart devices go beyond the limits of the incomprehensible.

Apple Watch SE (2022)

Tim Cook shook out a third watch from his sleeve. As the name suggests, it’s a follow-up to the Watch SE, which remains the more affordable Apple Watch for mere mortals. The Apple Watch SE is a simplified version of the Watch Series 8. It has the same processor, crash detection, but no temperature sensor or other health tracking equipment.

  • Apple Watch SE (2022): 309 €

Finally, the new AirPods Pro headphones (2nd generation)

The headphones have received quite a few upgrades. The case features new speakers, an alarm function to find the case, wireless charging, MagSafe charging, a new H2 chip for better sound, a larger battery, surround sound and twice as strong active noise cancellation. You can now increase or decrease the volume by sliding on the stem of the headphones.

  • AirPods Pro (2nd generation): €320
