A. Čak is one of the greatest poets in Latvian literature who has stepped over national boundaries in his work. Having experienced the influence of Russian cubo-futurists in his youth, A. Čak developed his own style and poeticized the daily life of Riga. It should be noted that the poet’s poems are well translated into Russian.
In a survey offered by the Gorod.lv portal: “120 years of Alexander Čak: have you read one of the best Latvian poets?” – 400 people took part. Unfortunately, 74% of the respondents answered negatively to this question.
Only 21% of respondents were familiar with the work of Chuck. To them you can add another 3% of those survey participants who voted for the answer: “Not yet, but now I read it.”
