Neighboring peers have gathered to eat jackfruit in the open space next to the house. In between eating, they are busy with various stories. Sitting in the next room and enjoying their chat, Chibar Uddin is not able to go to the chat despite his desire. Although his intelligence is normal, he lost one arm and one leg due to stroke a few years ago. From then on, he could not walk alone without the help of others.

Chibar Uddin’s home is in Katamara village of Banshtail union of Bari upazila. Chibar Uddin, who became physically disabled due to a stroke, dreams of a wheelchair. But he could not buy it because of financial difficulties. Chibar Uddin is survived by his wife, two daughters, one son and grandchildren. His only son rents a motorcycle. That’s why he spends most of the day sitting at home, even though he hangs out with his peers.

This time Mirzapur Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Shamima Akter Shifa has come forward to fulfill that dream of Chibar Uddin. He gifted a wheelchair to Chibar Uddin.

After getting a wheelchair, Chibar Uddin said, at one time he had a normal life. One arm and one leg become numb after a stroke. From then on, you can’t move without the help of others. If I had a wheelchair, I could move a little. But due to the tension in the family, he could not buy a wheelchair despite having a dream. This time his dream has been fulfilled.

Jaheda Akhter, a disabled person from Thalpara village in Fatehpur union of the upazila, Aminur Hossain from the same village, Amit Sarkar from Chakleshwar Paspara and many others dream of a wheelchair like Chibar Uddin. Shamima Akhter Shifa has extended a helping hand to fulfill the dreams of indigent disabled people like them. He is looking for indigent physical and mental rivals in different villages of the upazila. And giving them a wheelchair as a gift.

Shamima Akhter Shifa said that every year grants are given from the Upazila Parishad for various works including roads, ghats and religious institutions. But he felt that it was important to cooperate in meeting the needs of people with special needs in society.

A wheelchair can make life a lot easier for a person with a disability. But due to financial difficulties many people could not buy that chair. That is why he has planned to buy a wheelchair for the financially indigent disabled with his share of money in the Upazila Parishad. In the meantime, she has compiled a list of 12 indigent disabled men, women and children in different villages of the upazila. The program was inaugurated on June 15 at the Upazila Parishad premises by distributing wheel chairs among some of the disabled.

At the Upazila Parishad Chairman Mir Enayet Hossain Montu, Upazila Executive Officer. Hafizur Rahman, Vice Chairman Azaharul Islam, Mehera Union Parishad Chairman. Badsha Mia, President of Mirzapur Government College Chhatra League Mubarak Hossain and others were present.

Rani Sarkar, the mother of Amit Sarkar, a disabled child, said a disabled child is the cry of a mother’s heart. They already have a lot of trouble. What could be more difficult for a parent when he cannot afford the necessary materials due to financial difficulties. A wheelchair was very necessary for the baby not to stand on two legs. Getting that seems a lot lighter today.

Mirzapur Upazila Parishad Vice-Chairman Shamima Akhter Shifa said she would continue such activities in the future as well.

Mirzapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Hafizur Rahman said, “Every woman, man and child with special needs should come forward with the help of established individuals and organizations of the society.” That work has already been started by Vice Chairman Shamima Akter Shifa.
