Even before winter, we protect fruit trees from animals

They can seriously damage fruit trees by gnawing buds, shoots and bark. Even to the extent that the fruit trees die. Act before it’s too late.

In winter, when we are surprised by a thick winter blanket, forest animals often start to lack food. That’s when they attack tree trunks, where they eat the bark. This can cause a lot of damage. The wounds caused by them are an excellent place for diseases to enter, reducing the resistance of the trees, their growth and many times such trees fail. As a rule, forest animals eat spruce, fir, cherry, peach, pear, large ash, mountain elm and some other species.

Homemade coatings

In order to properly protect the trees from being eaten, we use various protections today. The most common are coatings, the recipes and production of which are passed down from generation to generation. Today, experts tend to use coatings that contain quartz sand, as this is unpleasant for deer and other game. Many prepare coatings based on various resins, which are often mixed with aggressive fragrances. Still others take up the practice with waste cooking oils. A proven protection is a coating with whitewash, prepared with lime slag, to which quartz sand is added. Such a coating will protect the bark of the tree from damage caused mainly by rabbits.

Glowing deterrents

An excellent solution that will drive away unwanted guests from the fruit garden are shiny and loud objects. Hang glittering waste packaging (for example from coffee) cut into strips on the branches. CDs and sheets of aluminum foil, as well as waste cans, are also excellent for chasing, which will surely repel many uninvited visitors with their rustling and glittering.

Let nature take care

Only a little human help is needed to maintain the natural protection. Place a pole in the shape of a T line in the orchard. This will be an excellent observation post for birds of prey, which will prevent many nuisances. But also let the cats and dogs roam undisturbed in the orchard and enjoy hunting. Set, for example, beef tallow. This will attract the fox, but you can also make some shelters for the weasel.
