European Citizens Initiative: Italy is over 50%

Italy rises to 28,392 signatures for the European Citizens’ Initiative (ICE) for a universal basic income.

Today we are exactly at 52.99% of the minimum threshold of 53,580 signatures. To be successful, the Initiative must collect 1 million signatures across Europe by June 25, 2022, and at least 6 other countries must cross the threshold and join Slovenia which has already crossed it.

The objective of the ICE is that “to introduce a basic income across the EU that will ensure everyone’s livelihood and the opportunity to participate in society as part of their economic policy. The objective will be achieved while remaining within the competences conferred on the EU by the Treaties. We ask the European Commission to present a proposal on unconditional basic incomes across the Union that reduce regional disparities in order to strengthen economic, social and territorial cohesion in the EU. This will lead to achieving the goal of the joint declaration of the European Council, the European Parliament and the European Commission, issued in 2017, according to which “the EU and its Member States will also support efficient, sustainable and fair social security systems to ensure a basic income “in order to combat inequalities.”
