
The project “EU for cultural heritage and tourism” is for the second time awarding grants to the private sector in tourism, catering and winemaking. The purpose of this financial support is to support family and small businesses in order to improve and develop their tourist offers and hospitality services. The total amount of grants is 350,000 euros.
The contest was open from September 19 to October 21 last year. A total of 146 entrepreneurs, agricultural farms, farmers, small and medium-sized enterprises and natural persons who are engaged in renting accommodation applied. Through the evaluation of the independent commission, 42 winners of non-reimbursable financial resources were determined, who will implement their projects in the current year in order to improve their services.
Most of the funds were earmarked for the promotion of energy efficiency and the purchase of necessary equipment for private accommodation, restaurants, hotels, cafes, and among the winners was a provider of river transport services from Donji Milanovac. The maximum amount of individual projects is 10,000 euros.

The competition covers eight cities and municipalities on the territory of Eastern Serbia and Lower Danube: Zaječar, Negotin, Kladovo, Majdanpek, Golubac, Veliko Gradište, Požarevac and Smederevo, as well as the Municipality of Topola in Central Serbia.
The European Union has so far earmarked over one million euros for the promotion of the private sector in tourism and hospitality in Eastern Serbia and Lower Danube, through the project “EU for cultural heritage and tourism” implemented by the German organization for international cooperation GIZ. The ultimate goal of the project is to increase the entire tourist offer of the region, but also to create a recognizable tourist destination for tourists from all over the world.
