BELGRADE – Companies from EU countries directly employ between 280,000 and 300,000 people in Serbia, and indirectly many more, said the head of the EU Delegation in Belgrade, Emanuel Žiofre.

In his address to the Assembly of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Žiofre stated that last year Serbia’s exports to the EU amounted to 64 percent of total exports, while bilateral trade reached almost 40 billion euros, the Chamber announced.
“Investments from the EU make up about 60 percent of total foreign direct investments in Serbia”said Žiofre and assessed that the Serbian private sector is one of the biggest supporters of the European economic integration of Serbia.
He reminded of the new EU plan, which rests on four pillars, namely bringing the Western Balkans closer to the EU single market, deepening regional economic integration, accelerating reforms and increasing pre-accession funds.
The participants of today’s Assembly of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce were addressed by the President of the Chamber, Marko Čadež, and the Ambassadors of the USA and Italy to Serbia, Kristofer Hill and Luka Gori.
