The special envoy of the United States of America for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, reiterated today that it is Pristina’s obligation to form the Union of Serbian Municipalities and added that he wants the processes from the agreement to take place as quickly as possible.

Eskobar also pointed out that there are elements that Serbia is expected to fulfill, such as the recognition of Pristina license plates, identity cards and other things.

He assessed that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina represents the historical development of their relations, adding that the agreement on normalization under European conditions is a huge achievement.

– It took a lot of political courage from President Aleksandar Vučić and Prime Minister (temporary institutions of Pristina) Aljbin Kurti to reach that agreement – said Escobar and noted that it is a legally binding agreement.

Exobar reminded that the vice president of the European Commission, Josep Borelj, said that the agreement was legal and binding in every respect.

– Now the question is how to fully implement it, because full implementation will help the region to heal from that frozen conflict that has been the most divisive in the Balkans since 1999. I am optimistic that we will reach a solution – said Escobar in an interview with the MINA agency.

The special envoy believes that the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, as well as Kurti, are able to show political courage to take the right steps.

– We want these processes to take place as quickly as possible. I don’t see why these processes could not be completed by the end of the flight – said Eskobar.
