In order to improve the energy efficiency of homes, the state will subsidize, among other things, the installation of solar collectors for the central preparation of domestic hot water.
By using them, this type of costs can be reduced by up to 90 percent. The collector needed for one larger household costs from 1,500 to 2,000 euros. This means that the citizens should set aside from 750 to 1,000 euros, because it is predicted that half of the costs for the works on energy rehabilitation will be paid by the state, Novosti writes.
Solar collectors can also be used for heating, but the state subsidizes their installation for the preparation of domestic hot water. This refers to heating cold water that comes from taps and is used for showering, washing dishes, laundry… Dragan Košutić, an expert in a well-known company that sells and installs solar collectors, points out that the investment in a sanitary water heating system pays off within four years.
– This type of collector produces thermal energy, and there is another type that generates electricity – explains Košutić. – Investments in the system only for heating sanitary water, for one larger household, range from 1,500 to 2,000 euros. For example, for a family of four, a 200-liter water heater and an area of four square meters are enough to install solar collectors. Its price is 1,760 euros.
That volume of the boiler would be optimal having in mind the assumed consumption of one such household. Collectors, he says, are mounted outside, and it can be on the wall, roof or in the yard. It is best to be a space that is positioned from southeast to southwest.
– The boiler is installed inside the apartment or house and is sufficient for all needs. At the same time, it also serves as a heat accumulator, because it is larger than the classic one. Its cauldron has a volume of 200, 300, 500, 1,000 and more liters.
If someone lives in the building, they can install a solar collector on the terrace, and a water heater in the apartment. The housing community that decides to provide domestic hot water in this way, places the collector on the roof. The type of system that is installed is important for achieving the greatest savings.
Kosutic points out that the exclusive use of solar vacuum collectors provides about 80 to 90 percent of free hot water. In Serbia, the water temperature in the systems during the winter, as he states, does not go below 30 degrees.
– This means that reheating is required only by 10 to 15 degrees to obtain an optimal temperature of 40 or 45 degrees. In summer it can be higher. Plate collectors do not achieve such savings. Vacuum have such a name because they are insulated like a thermos bottle and are extremely effective in winter conditions. They are in the shape of purple tubes lined up next to each other.
Kosutic also advises that citizens choose stainless steel boilers because of their longevity. They are practically indestructible, he says, regardless of water quality. Citizens’ applications for subsidies should start in mid-June, when municipalities and cities announce a public call, and it has been announced that the first contracts will be signed in July.
Interest in solar collectors has increased significantly since the state announced that it would subsidize their installation – says Dragan Košutić. – The big problem is that citizens are poorly informed about the effects and savings they can achieve, so they are distrustful. It should be borne in mind that solar energy will always be free, while the price of other energy sources is rising.
