Employees vote to form the first Apple union in the United States

A majority of employees in an Apple store in the United States have voted to form a union.

This is the first time this has happened to the tech giant, which has so far tried to prevent employees’ attempts to form and join unions.

Of the 110 employees at the Apple store in the town of Towson in the state of Maryland, 65 on Saturday local time voted to form a union. 33 have voted against.

It appears from a live broadcast of the vote from a federal authority overseeing the process.

It is a group of employees, known as Apple Core (Coalition of Organized Retail Employees), who have campaigned for the union.

»We did it Towson! We won our union vote. Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard and to everyone who has backed up. Now we must celebrate the victory together with the machine workers’ union. Tomorrow, the work of organizing us will continue, “the group wrote on Twitter.

Employees at the Apple store in Towson demand to be consulted on issues of pay, working hours and security measures.

The result of the vote, which has been going on since Wednesday, means that employees can now form their own department under the International Association of Mechanical Engineers and Aviation Workers (IAM).

IAM President Robert Martinez praises the courage of Towson employees.

“They have sacrificed a great deal for the benefit of thousands of Apple employees across the country.”

“I would like to ask Apple’s CEO Tim Cook to respect the election results and expedite a contract with the dedicated staff at Towson,” he said in a statement.

This is not the first time that employees of an Apple store have tried to organize, but it is the first time that the attempt has resulted in a vote.

During a visit to the Apple store in Towson in May, Apple’s HR manager, Deirdre O’Brien, said, among other things, that the presence of an intermediary would complicate the relationship between Apple and the company’s employees.

Apple has declined to comment on Saturday’s poll.
