Elena, how was the project to merge your voice with the guitar of Marta Robles born The women of my life?

Well, the truth is that Marta and I have been chasing each other for a long time and we wanted to get together and create something together. And we had the best excuse in the world through a festival against sexist violence. I told him I thought we already had our artistic connecting point. I explained the idea to her and we both ended up creating this project of women’s stories that have marked us throughout our lives, and that make us where we are right now.

Can you give us examples of these women and the music that represents them?

There are many different musical genres, because we have brought together two people with similar musical tastes, but at the same time also very varied. Marta is the creator of the group La Migas and she plays flamenco, and I don’t so much: I’m a bit flamenco, but I’ve been releasing it more intensely lately. As for women represented, we go from Clara Peya to Joan Báez or María Arnal. We have the idea to talk about contemporary women and our companions, not only for the works they do, but also for the discourse they have, what they do and what they say. And even Maria Rodríguez, my partner in the series As if it were yesterday, has collaborated in the project, who has given voice to phrases from women that marked Marta and me a lot, such as Candela Peña or Laura Aubert, because we love what they think and what they say.

Is it a way to claim them?

It’s music that hints that the woman has been silenced and that it’s time to give a voice to all these wonderful women and put them first.

Has it been difficult to make a selection?

Yes, what happens is that for whatever reason we were very much in agreement in the selection. I passed a proposal to Marta and she loved it, and the same one she made me. That’s what I was telling you: we both have different and similar tastes at the same time, and we were pretty much in agreement when it came to making the choice, choosing many women in common.

An assembly that began as a one-off idea and has spread. In wich way?

This show premiered at the Gas Light as a specific creation for the festival against sexist violence. But people liked it a lot and we are moving it a lot all over Catalonia, from ‘bolo’. It wasn’t our initial idea, but look, it’s amazing us and we’re thrilled with life! We are doing very well.

Tell us about your other half on stage, Marta Robles.

She is a woman who has everything very clear! If you know her, you can tell she’s a boss, for things like leading a group like Las Migas! I can’t even imagine it! When I was younger I went to a concert in Las Migas one day, and there I saw the light and said to myself: “this is what makes me cool!”. I had always had the idea that flamenco was an untouchable genre, but when I saw Las Migas he put it next to me, he brought it closer to me. And as a person, Marta is very clear about what she wants and has a lot of knowledge of flamenco. For me it is a brutal learning to work with her.

Your artistic career begins with gospel songs at school, continues with your time in OT, the creation of the trio Lunae, your participation in the great musical Sea and sky, for your 3 Armchair awards, for being a juror on the show Oh Happy day or for your participation in the TV3 series As if it were yesterday. Clearly you like versatility. What would you stay with?

Oysters, I don’t know! The truth is, I was born to sing, that’s clear. But four years ago I started with the As if it were yesterday and I am absolutely in love with this job, of doing fiction and television like that. Of creating a character, of looking for and studying scripts, working on them, watching them, making proposals and having them change it for you at the last minute and having to record fast… I want to be that big!

It is the musical that we premiered last year at the Teatre Condal. Because of the situation we lived in, there were people who had to return tickets. And now he will return to the Condal. I will play a bad witch and a good witch, a role that we share with Mercè Martínez, as we did the other time. And I love the life of doing theater! Finally, what can you tell the lucky ones who got tickets on Saturday before they ran out?

Because they will listen to music made from the heart and sung and played from the bowels. Marta and I don’t know how to sing or play if it’s not really done and that’s what we do.
