Electric car subsidy: If this continues, the money will run out in a week!

No less than 71 million euros was set aside by the government to stimulate the sale of electric cars. In addition, another 20.4 million euros was made available to boost the market in second-hand EVs. It was possible to apply for these subsidies since Monday 3 January 9:00 am. Later that day, at 4:45 PM, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) announced that 10.4 million euros for new and 1.8 million euros for used EVs have already been allocated.

No less than 3,350 euros in subsidy will be given to anyone who buys or leases a new electric car in 2022. If you opt for a used EV, you can receive a subsidy of 2,000 euros. The figures from the RVO therefore show that 3113 people applied for a subsidy for a new electric car, and 903 people for a used one.

Do you want to make another application?

If this trend continues, the pot for new EVs will be empty by a week. According to the AD the RVO is convinced that this will not happen so quickly: “On the first day you always have a stampede”. Have you just parked a new EV in your driveway, or ordered one? Then we recommend that you err on the side of caution and quickly go to the website of the RVO to go. If the jar is used up, you will receive nothing at all.

It is important to know that a number of conditions apply. Not every electric car is eligible for the subsidy amount. It must meet the following requirements:

  • The electric car must be 100% electric. (Plug-in) hybrids therefore do not count. Hydrogen cars do.
  • The range of your new electric car must be at least 120 kilometers.
  • The purchase price must be between 12,000 and 45,000 euros. For used cars, this applies to the original purchase price.
  • Only vehicles produced as electric cars count. A car that has been retrofitted with an electric motor is not eligible for the subsidy.
  • Are you buying an EV? Then you will receive the subsidy amount in one go and you must keep the car for at least 3 years.
  • With private lease you will receive the subsidy per month and a minimum term of 4 years applies.
  • The purchase or lease agreement must be signed on or after 1 January.

To make it easy, the government has drawn up a list of all electric cars that will qualify for the subsidy in 2022.
