El Diablo Sturdy in the 2022 MotoGP standings

DAPURPACU – After reaching the second podium at the Spanish GP last weekend, Fabio Quartararo is getting stronger at the top of the standings. This result also marks the first back to back podium in this season.

Previously, El Diablo managed to score a podium at the Portuguese GP. In the 6th round of the 2022 MotoGP, the Yamaha YZR-M1 by Quartararo finished with a gap of only 0.2 seconds from Bagnaia.

Continuing to overtake Pecco, Quartararo prefers to secure the 20 points which are crucial for the championship. Now he leads the standings with 89 points.

El Diablo also admitted that it was very difficult to match the Ducati at Jerez. In fact, the man with a French passport is the favorite to win the Spanish GP.

“I tried to overtake Pecco on the first lap because staying behind him would make it difficult for my front tyre. I tried everything, but he is very fast,” he explained to Yamaha MotoGP.

However, he admits the speed of the Yamaha YZR-M1 is absolutely fantastic, even though the front tire is under very high pressure and very hot.

“And I couldn’t brake harder, the front tire felt like chewing gum for a long time. But I think the distance with the riders behind us is quite far.”

“Congratulations to him, it wasn’t a real fight, because I couldn’t overtake Pecco. But it was an intense race and we really enjoyed it.”

The 2021 world champion hopes to have more duels with Pecco after this race. Even without overtaking, he admits that the intensity of racing this season is very high.

The next series will take place at home to El Diablo, France in the next two weeks. Of course it will be interesting if Quartararo is able to duel again with Pecco in front of the French GP at the Bugatti Circuit, Le Mans, 15 May. [dp/MTH]
