Eduard Pujol returns to television to present from Saturday ‘El fax de 8tv’

Eduard Pujol

Martorell journalist Eduard Pujol will start a new stage in the media this September presenting the program The 8tv fax in the private chain, together with Elisabet Cortiles. Every Saturday from September 17, from 9.45pm, Pujol will return to the front row of television and the media, after some time dedicated to the world of politics, in a program where he will review current affairs and will make an opinion, and that he does not hide that he intends to be the successor of the deceased FAQS by TV3.

Eduard, returns to the front line of a television program after a few years of hiatus. Does this generate more nerves in the run-up to the premiere?

These are days of nerves, of turning everything around a lot, of trying to visualize the set, the guests, the rhythm, the tone of the program… Yes, it is true that I have been away from television for a few years due to political decisions, but it must be said that between the last midday news program that I edited and presented on BarçaTV and until today I have spent most of my time doing radio, dedicated to the management of RAC1 for seven years.

But we could say that they are very different mediums, right?

Yes, they are different languages, codes and projects. It is very different to present a television news report on the official Barça channel to direct a radio channel of the scale of RAC1 with the importance of every word and every word of the interviewee. And now it’s a challenge to take a type format FAQS de TV3 and take it to a private television where there is less media like 8tv, but where at the same time there is a quality and a positive characteristic: the ability to ask questions and to do it without thinking about any political conditions.

It highlighted this statement of intent for the new program: to be a new FAQS. Will there be many parallels?

The air will breathe FAQS, and we have not hidden that. All this with our tone, with the particularities of the direction and the presentation, because Cristina Puig is not Eduard Pujol; Eduard Pujol is not Elisabeth Cortiles; Cortiles is not Cristina Puig or Laura Rosel… Everyone is everyone, but we are looking for the interview and we want to turn the word into a show. And we don’t hide from that.

At the moment, not too many things have transpired about the program. What can you tell us?

These are days of many tweaks. We are in that phase where you are finishing the house and the most powerful thing has already been done: the concrete structure and beams, the part that makes a house stand or not. And there comes a day when you go to the ceramic house to choose a tile for the bathroom and almost until the day the mason installs it, you’re still thinking about whether it’s going to be that white piece or whether you want a border. We are in this, and I can’t hide it, I say it as it is: these are days of many details and of closing presences and guests, and we will reveal this on the 17th.

You will present ‘El fax de 8tv’ together with Elisabeth Cortiles. Were you able to generate this necessary connection between the two of you for the program?

I have always admired Elisabeth very much, we met at BarçaTV when I was its director and she had arrived from the hand of Vicent Sanchis. It began by presenting a program called Green Square and then I gave him all the freedom in the world to make other records, such as the Barça News. In addition, Elisabet has a very notable individual career outside the media here, because she was a television star in Colombia, in a program called The Informants, where he seduced and succeeded in a very remarkable way. Today he returns to Catalonia after working in Andorra, we have seen him work at TV3 and I think that there is the point of complicity and knowledge to get along well and be able to help each other, which is the virtue of working in a network as will be the case at 8tv.

Eduard Pujol and Elisabet Cortiles

After so many years of experience in the media, do you still have that nervousness before the red pilot lights up?

You know what’s going on, that I’m very ‘Manolete’, a bullfighter who one day had a great afternoon and another day had a rough one, and since I know it and it’s happened to me more than once in life, I always need to be very focused and these moments of thinking that it can be easy don’t help me. There is nothing easy in life, which is full of new things that stress us and put us to the test. And in the media too. You always have to keep your head awake and focused and know very well what you have in hand. And a program of debate and political analysis, which looks for the headline so that the next day people are talking about it at lunchtime, is a responsibility that I take on very happily. But it is a responsibility that needs all the concentration of the world.

One of the panelists of the program will be Pilar Rahola. A factor that can be decisive for a good audience?

I will not discover Pilar Rahola now. He is a machine, a television and radio beast, and we are lucky to have him on the show. And when I asked him how to participate, I was very clear and told him in a “Cruyffista” tone: Hello, go out and enjoy!. The more Rahola and the more unbridled Rahola, in the good sense of showing all her edges and polyhedral faces, the better for the viewer and for the show.

Throughout his journalistic career he has worked at SER Lleida; in Catalunya Radio; at BarçaTV as director; at RAC1 directing the chain between 2010 and 2017… but his first steps were here, at Ràdio Martorell. What memory do you have of it?

Well, from Manolo Garrido and Assumpta Mera, who put up with me, helped me, accompanied me and made me grow. Therefore, my special and infinite thanks to both of them, because they were the ones I had the most relationship with on a day-to-day basis. I would like to say that, when you leave a place like this and fly, there is always a point of doubt: if you get too close it seems that you come to explain that things are going very well for you and that what are you doing here; and if you don’t get too close to them, you may seem to have forgotten them. I assure you that I have never forgotten my time at Ràdio Martorell, and that without that daily learning, especially in the news, I obviously would not have done what I was able to do later.
