EDP Renováveis produced 21.46 terawatts per hour (TWh) of clean energy in the first nine months of this year – an increase of 5% compared to the same period in 2020, when it had produced 20.35 TWh of energy –, avoiding 13mt of CO2 emissions. The information is included in the preview of operating data for the first three quarters, communicated this Thursday to the CMVM.
In Europe, generation increased 10% compared to September 2020, impacted by higher installed capacity. In North America, production was stable compared to the same period last year, reflecting the new installed capacity in operation neutralized by the lower resource and the impact of the ERCOT event [Conselho para a Fiabilidade Elétrica do Texas] non-recurring in the first quarter of 2021.
In Brazil, production increased by 53% due to higher installed capacity together with greater resource.
EDPR’s installed capacity increased to 13 GW by September, which corresponds to 1.5 GW more than in the first nine months of last year, with Europe and North America representing 40% and 55% of the portfolio, respectively.
Capacity additions since the beginning of the year were 1.2 GW and EDPR currently has 2.7 GW of capacity under construction, says the same document.
Following the successful completion of the US asset rotation transaction (80% stake in a 405 MW wind portfolio), net additions since the beginning of the year total 0.9 GW.
