This year marks the centenary of the first Mother’s Day celebration in Estonia and 150 years since the idea to start celebrating Mother’s Day.

With the idea that the year could be a day dedicated to mothers, the American poet and writer Julia Ward Howe came out in 1872. The day was not celebrated until 1908 in West Virginia.

With or without Mother’s Day, her mother is dear to every child, just as her mother is dear to every mother, no matter what the child or mother is. It is a tradition that on the eve of Mother’s Day, children sing and dance in schools and kindergartens, a program they have learned for several months, give pictures of themselves and carefully grown flowers from the seed. On a real Mother’s Day on Sunday, the mother is either taken out to eat or to taste a cake made in secret at home.

When the children have grown up, they still find time to visit their mother with a cake. There is also a commercial side on Mother’s Day – every self-respecting merchant brings out the products that will make her mother happy several weeks before Mother’s Day.

In fact, what makes a mother happy is the time spent with the children and the fact that the children can cope in their lives.

Mother’s Day is also accompanied by the election of the mother of the year – both at the county and state level. Every year, choosing a mother of the year raises questions about why one mother is better than all the other mothers who raise their children in the same way with the best knowledge and skills. Everyone can think for themselves whether this is right, but one mother is much happier than other mothers that day.

It doesn’t take anyone to know that it’s your mother’s most precious thing. And that makes Mother’s Day a very family-oriented and personally dear day for everyone.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers!
