Each month, 60 million euros / day will be needed to support the companies and employees affected by the new restrictions

He pointed out that there are sectors where restrictions will make it impossible to operate during an emergency, such as companies that provide indoor entertainment services. A working capital program could be applied in these sectors, as well as support for workers who will be left without income during these three months.

There will also be sectors where turnover is expected to fall by half. This is due to the fact that companies will be able to work part-time, serving only vaccinated people, which is half the population, Vitenbergs explained. It is planned to adjust the working capital program in these sectors.

The Minister expressed hope that an agreement on support would be reached this week. However, the exact deadlines for deciding on this are not yet known.

At the same time, the Minister acknowledged that if the rate of vaccination against Covid-19 does not increase, the restrictions may have to be extended.

As reported, a state of emergency has been declared in Latvia for three months, thus bringing into force several restrictions intended to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It is envisaged that people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19 or have not contracted it will in future be allowed to shop only in convenience stores, thus denying access to, for example, supermarkets. It has also been decided to restrict vaccinated persons – for example, measures in the “green” or safe zone will set additional epidemiological safety requirements, ie to wear masks, to observe distance, as well as to introduce certain restrictions on participants in certain measures.
