Dutch Student Modified His Motorcycle To Run On Methane From A Pond

Vehicle The search for new fuels is our need today and also our understanding. A Portuguese engineering student, Gijs Schalx, has made this thinking come true. He has succeeded in modifying his normal moped to run it on methane gas instead of petrol, diesel or gas.

Schalks don’t get the methane filled for mopeds from any petrol pump or gas station, but they painstakingly collect it from muddy drains and ponds on the side of the absolutely free road. However, it takes them 8 hours to collect the methane that is capable of running about 20 km. Giggs has named this modified moped in Dutch as ‘Slot Motor’.

They have designed it using an old Honda GX160 motorcycle engine. Giggs says I created it as a new alternative to fuel for vehicles like motorcycles. According to Giggs’ website, they drilled a hole in the engine’s airbox, to fill it with methane. They then attached a balloon to this hole, which, along with the collected methane, enables the engine to run. Its top speed is 43 kmph.
