DualSense split in half with a screen, Sony showed the appearance of the Project Q handheld

The PlayStation Showcase is mostly full of game demos and trailers. However, Wednesday’s presentation also showed new hardware, which has been speculated about for many months. An elegant looking handheld with a large screen, however, will not appeal to players without a PS5. It will be an add-on, not a separate device.

The information about the device with the code name Project Q became public already a few months ago, which we already reported. Sony’s handheld will not be the successor to the PSP and PS Vita, as we won’t get practically any computing hardware inside. Basically, it’s a split DualSense controller where Sony has inserted an 8-inch screen.

Sony revealed only part of the hardware specifications. In addition to the 8-inch diagonal and panel type (LCD), we also know the 60 Hz refresh rate and Full HD resolution. It was revealed at the presentation itself that Project Q will enable streaming of content from the PS5 to the screen of the device via WiFi. And that’s practically the whole use. So we don’t know if Project Q will offer, for example, dedicated applications like YouTube without the need to pair with the console.

The side controls copy the DualSense both physically and functionally. So we will see adaptive levers or haptic response. The release date is set for this year, most likely the end.

There are also new in-ear headphones ready for players PlayStation. They will offer Bluetooth 5.3 and compatibility with consoles, PCs and phones. Sony appeals to high sound quality and especially low response. Even here, we do not know the price or the exact date of sale.
