Batu Pahat: “The sacrifice of the late Apis who was willing to sacrifice his life to save my youngest brother is so big for us as a family,” said Mohd Zulhazmi Adhan, 25, the eldest brother of Muhammad Naqiuddin Adnan (Apis), 16, who drowned in Kampung Parit Haji Ali Sea, Parit Raja near here, today.
According to Zulhazmi, when the incident happened he and his parents were still at work, they only found out about the tragedy after being contacted by neighbors via phone call.
“Before the incident, my father returned home for a while at noon before returning to work and saw Muhammad Naqiuddin who was more friendly called Apis with his youngest brother (Akmal Muzakir, 12) at home.
“Unexpectedly, they both went with their friends to play in the ditch near the house area.
“The last time I met the deceased was in the morning before going to work, that was the last time I saw him,” he said when contacted, today.
Zulhazmi said, when receiving the news of Apis’ disappearance after rescuing his youngest brother and other friends, the family hoped that he would be found soon.
“Authorities and residents helped a lot during the search and rescue operation for the deceased Apis who disappeared almost 15 hours before Apis’ body was found this morning.
“Even though Apis was found lifeless, our family calmed down and accepted the destiny determined by the Divine. We pray for the souls of the deceased to be showered with the blessings of Allah SWT,” he said.
He said, there is no strange behavior done by Apis recently because the deceased is a brother who is so friendly and spoiled with family.
“Currently, my family and I are still saddened by the loss of the deceased and the condition of my youngest brother who survived the tragedy is calm, but still traumatized because he is so close to his brother’s deceased.
“The late Apis is the third child of four siblings in the family. He remains a great hero for our family,” he said.
Earlier, Muhammad Naqiuddin’s body was safely buried at the Parit Raja Islamic Cemetery after Asar, today.
Meanwhile, Batu Pahat District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said the victim’s body was found at a distance of five meters (m) at the bottom of the ditch from the location of the incident at 8.40am today.
“The results of the investigation found that at 4pm yesterday, the victim went down to take a bath in the ditch with his brother and four friends aged between 10 and 13 years.
“About 30 minutes after bathing, the victim’s brother and two other friends were swept away by the current, then the victim managed to save the three of them by pulling to the side of the ditch, while the other two friends of the victim’s brother who also bathed together survived.
“As a result of the victim’s fatigue, he was seen drifting by the current and drowning. Meanwhile, his brother and four friends were unable to help and call for help from nearby residents,” he said in a statement, here.
