SS21 Dr. Martens x Keith Haring
Amsterdam, January 2021 – Keith Haring’s impact on the art world is unparalleled. Even those who do not know his name are indirectly familiar with his work. His art is everywhere; on t-shirts, on the sides of buildings, chairs, key rings and badges. And from January 22, 2021, finally on the boots and shoes of Dr. Martens.
The New York-based artist’s colorful, cartoon-like graphics were deeply rooted in social activism. His artworks – which were accessible to all – openly displayed his opinion and questioned the authorities at the time. There was always more meaning behind Keith’s work than meets the eye. Keith Haring was an artist who spent his life fighting for the oppressed and the status quo. The mark he left behind can still be felt today. In this first collaboration with Dr. Martens, the brand pays tribute to a person who has always conveyed the DM’s mindset.
The original 1460 boots are printed with Haring’s instantly recognizable illustrations and two eye-catching shoelace tags. The boots are made of smooth leather, printed with black graphic lacquer details all over the side of the boots. The boots are decorated on the back with a strip of colorful graphic figures on the heel.
A black 1460 Keith Haring boat has also been added to the collection for the youngest fans. Made from soft Hydro leather, printed with Keith’s bat cartoon on the sides and featuring the shoelace tag with dog cartoon on it.
The two 1461 shoes are made of Smooth leather and decorated with Keith’s famous designs. The first of which is a reference to his ‘angelic baby’ illustration in white and red. And the second 1461 has a complete print with Keith’s iconic characters.
The Dr. Martens x Keith Haring collection will be available from January 22, 2021 in-store and online at drmartens.com.
