KITCHEN – Keeping the car in top condition is indeed the owner’s biggest homework, especially on the surface of the body. There are many ways to keep the car body in good condition.
The choice of coating is a solution that is currently most in demand by car owners in protecting body surfaces. Coating is the process of coating the body using a material / product.
The benefit is that car paint always looks shiny and protected thanks to the coating that covers the body surface. For longevity, go back to the product or brand of coating. The main requirement, do maintenance well.
Another way is to choose Paint Protection Film (PPF). However, there are many misconceptions between coatings and PPF, especially among the general public. Even though PPF knows a lot as laminating car bodies.
Lianto Winata, Chief Operating Officer of PT V-Kool Indo Lestari, holder of the V-Kool window film brand in Indonesia, admits that many people in general think that coating and PPF are the same thing.
“Even though it is clearly different. The coating uses chemicals on the body, for example, such as waxing or nano ceramic. Meanwhile, PPF actually covers the body with thick and clear plastic, ”he said, in an official broadcast, Thursday (8/4).
It can be said that PPF is a new trend that is now favored by many in the automotive world, for the category of protection in car paint. This is because PPF is claimed to be more capable of protecting cars from scratches by sharp objects, such as gravel and collisions.
In addition, PPF can also maintain the original color and make the car look shiny (wet-look) for a long time. So, what is the difference between coating and PPF?
In essence, PPF functions to protect paint from physical damage with a thick and transparent film layer. Another function, maintaining car color permanently. Meanwhile, coating is only for temporary color treatment.
Lianto said that with the use of chemical substances that are applied to the body during the coating and polishing processes, it is possible to erode the original paint layer.
Unfortunately, scratched and damaged paint surfaces will still occur because the coating is very thin and in liquid form cannot protect the vehicle against physical damage.
As for the PPF itself, its nature really covers all parts of the car body with a layer of film. That way, the PPF process has longer durability due to its physical form in the form of a thick film layer.
Unlike waxing or coating that uses chemicals, the car is required to continue to receive maintenance for a certain period of time so that the appearance remains sleek.
According to Lianto, the simple thing is that coating is not paint protection but color protection, because its function is to keep the car’s color bright but only temporarily.
So, he continued, when the surface of the car body is touched by objects or when washing, the possibility of the body experiencing scratches remains.
“Meanwhile, because laminating PPF is wrapped in film, the body is protected from fine scratches and the color of the car remains bright, so the function of PPF is to protect and maintain the originality of the car’s color,” he explained again.
V-Kool PPF Perfectly Protects Body Surface
For V-Kool PPF products, they are made from thermoplastic urethane (TPU), which can protect vehicle paint from sharp scratches, both thin and deep.
Gravel scratches, discoloration due to exposure to ultraviolet rays, mold, and abrasion are also claimed to be handled perfectly. Many other PPF brands claim to use TPU material too but are sold very cheaply.
The TPU material itself has several grades, while the material used by V-Kool PPF is the most premium TPU material and is claimed to be the best of all.
The material is clearer, stronger, looks natural and shinier when compared to middle to lower class TPU material and other materials.
“V-Kool PPF also has the advantage of being easy in terms of maintenance, because it has ‘self-healing’ properties that can remove fine scratches by itself without special treatment, only relying on the heat of the sun,” concluded Lianto.
The advantage of V-Kool PPF is that it has a thickness of 8 mil (0.2032 mm) and is designed to protect paint from damage due to corrosive substances. Also provides perfect protection from ultraviolet rays, sun heat, and water so that the color does not fade quickly.
In addition, the durability of V-KOOL PPF is longer than chemical coatings with a warranty of 10 years. The installation is carried out by a reliable V-Kool standard technician.
If you want to maximize the protection of the vehicle body, it is advisable to combine the two because PPF and coating can complement each other.
When installing V-Kool PPF, the car will be corrected by a professional paint restoration before being coated. After that, a light nano coating was also carried out on the car. [dp/MTH]
